The Liquid Facelift Has Arrived

Austin, TX (ContentDesk) April 21, 2004 -? Dr. Gregory Nikolaidis of Westlake Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery is one of only a few select physicians in Texas chosen to use Sculptra, a product created by Dermik Laboratories.
Already commonly used throughout Europe, Sculptra is known as the "liquid facelift."
Patients are able to safely and non-surgically receive the benefits of traditional facelifts through the product's effect of plumping up the skin.During the Sculptra procedure, a patient is numbed with topical numbing cream and given a series of injections in the desired area.
The material used in Sculptra is lactic acid, the substance that is naturally produced by muscles during exercise.
This acid stimulates the skin to produce more collagen, thus producing a plumping effect.

Dr. Nikolaidis believes that "this product will transform the field of cosmetic surgery."
Unlike other fillers, such as Restylane and Cosmoplast, which last only a few months, Sculptra causes the body to stimulate its own collagen.
This results in a much longer-lasting effect, generally two to three years.
Side effects of the procedure are minimal, other than short-term swelling and redness.Dr. Nikolaidis was invited by Dermik Laboratories to attend a training session on Sculptra in Chicago on April 17 and 18, and is scheduled to receive additional training in Frankfurt, Germany in June.

He will offer the product at his practice, Westlake Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery, in Austin upon its United States release in July 2004.Gregory Nikolaidis, M.D. received his Dermatology specialty training at the University of California, San Diego, after graduating at the top of his class with Honors in the Basic Sciences from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Dr. Nikolaidis opened Westlake Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery in 2002, devoting his practice to cutting-edge, minimally invasive aesthetic procedures.
He has been a leader in other recent break-through cosmetic surgery techniques, including Feather-Lift and ThermaLift..

The procedure can make the chin more or less prominent, depending on the needs and overall look of the patient's facial appearance.Mentoplasty changes the chin's shape by moving some of the bone forward, adding implants or in some cases, completely removing the bone altogether.
Each procedure has different details and is dependent on what the patient's needs are.

“Vanity Tax” on Plastic Surgery is Unworkable, Says Dallas Surgeon

Dallas, TX (ContentDesk) April 12, 2006 -- Under pressure to increase tax revenue, a growing number of states across the US are considering a so-called vanity tax that would levy a sales tax on plastic surgery procedures.New Jersey has enacted a 6% tax on cosmetic procedures. Washington, Illinois and several other states are considering similar measures. In Texas, Governor Rick Perry has proposed expanding the state sales tax to include elective cosmetic surgery as part of an effort to boost school funding. But such taxes are a bad idea, says Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Fred Hackney (http://www.hackney-plastic-surgery-clinic.com).
While I can see how this might appeal to people, says Hackney, its based on a misconception that most plastic surgery is elective.Hackney says that any tax on plastic surgery would be unworkable because of the difficulty in determining what surgery really is elective...

Scottsdale, AZ (ContentDesk via ContentDesk Direct) October 28, 2005 -- Demand for body lifts, a new cosmetic surgery procedure that is almost a necessity after massive weight loss from gastric bypass surgery, is growing fast. For instance, one of Munros clients went in for a consultation at a well-known Chicago clinic and received an estimate of $80,000 for a two-stage body lift procedure.

It included a belt lipectomy, abdominoplasty, breast lift and implants, brachioplasty (upper arm reduction) and a lower body lift. In Thailand, her body lift will be completed...
